Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, a luxury hotel in Abu Dhabi, will complete its commitment to replace or remove all plastic items, from toiletries to water bottles with its water-from-air bottling plant set to be operational this month.

A first of its kind in the UAE, the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr's water bottling plant will use advanced technology to produce water from air. This air-to-water process utilizes Atmospheric Water Generator, an innovative solution developed by Eshara Water.

Once produced, the water will be filtered and mineralized, and then filled into reusable, encapsulated glass bottles. Serving a total of 367 luxurious rooms, suites, and villas, as well as all restaurants across the hotel, the plant will produce a total of 4,000 litres of water per day.

"The hospitality industry has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to sustainability, and we are proud to lead these efforts through this innovation,” said Elias Chakhtoura, General Manager of Fairmont Bab Al Bahr. "We are committed to promoting sustainable practices and reducing our environmental footprint, and this technology will allow our guests to experience a pleasant and responsible stay."

By achieving zero single-use plastics, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr completes its existing initiatives to reduce carbon emissions, water and energy usage, waste, and more, including:

•    Used cooking oils are collected and given to an authorized recycling service to be transformed into biodiesel (around 10,000 litres are produced each year).
•    Flow regulators and tap aerators are installed in all taps to control water usage and reduce water consumption in rooms and public areas by 20%.
•    More than 34 ingredients are locally sourced in the U.A.E and fish is from responsible sources (MSC- or ACS-certified).
•    Food waste and recyclables are segregated from general waste across all the hotel facilities, while hazardous waste such as chemical containers, batteries, bulbs, tubes, and e-waste is sorted and then taken away and processed by an approved service provider. – TradeArabia News Service
