Dubai-based P&O Maritime Logistics, a marine solutions and logistics company, has secured a series of contracts worth over $30 million that will see three vessels operating in Taiwan's emerging offshore wind market from early 2021.

The future of the offshore market involves a significant diversification into renewable energy and these contracts represent the latest commitment made by P&O Maritime Logistics in support of the company’s wide-ranging renewable energy strategy.

As part of a continuing shift towards green energy, Taiwan has invested in wind technology that aims to deliver 5.7 GigaWatt in output by 2025.P&O Maritime Logistics will assist Taiwan’s wind development by providing three OSVs operating across different projects.

The Topaz Installer, a cable-lay vessel, will be utilised in shore-to-sea and inter-field cable arrays for clients Subsea 7 and Van Oord until 2024. The end client is Ørsted Taiwan Limited, a leading offshore energy provider based in Denmark.

The Topaz Tangaroa, delivered in 2019, is a state-of-the-art light subsea construction vessel currently equipped with a Q1600, 1200kW trencher - one of the world's most powerful trenchers. The vessel will work on the Greater Changua Offshore Field supporting the cable-lay vessel Nexus on cable trenching for leading Dutch marine contractor Van Oord. The end client is again Ørsted Taiwan Limited.

The Topaz Tiamat, sister vessel to the Tangaroa, is contracted for 3.5 years from January 2021. Tiamat will work in the Changfang and Xidao windfarms where she will support the installation of foundations and monopiles for client Boskalis, a leading global dredging contractor and marine services provider.

Robert Desai, Chief Commercial Officer, P&O Maritime Logistics said: "These three contracts represent significant wins for some of our most advanced and modern vessels and add a healthy US$30 million to our already industry-leading contract backlog. I’m delighted to be able to capture value in what are very challenging times for the offshore industry.

“We are particularly pleased to be able to play a part in the exciting offshore wind market in Taiwan and to be working for such prestigious clients in this important and growing segment. The awards reinforce our reputation as a trusted offshore logistics partner to major marine contractors based on a consistent global track-record of reliable and safe operations.” – TradeArabia News Service
