The power industry contracts across the Middle East and Africa plunged 33 per cent in August with just 20 contracts announced compared to the last 12-month average of 30, according to GlobalData’s power database.
 
Looking at contracts by country, Iran led the activity in August with three contracts and a share of 15%, down 2.6% over the previous month and flat growth when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by the UAE with three contracts and a share of 15% and Egypt with two contracts and a share of 10% during the month.
 
Looking at the last 12-month average, Iran held the top spot with three contracts, followed by Saudi Arabia with three and the United Arab Emirates with two contracts.
 
With regard to the top technology area for contracts, GlobalData said: "Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with four contracts and a 50% share, followed by solar with two contracts and a 25% share and hydro with one contract and a 12.5% share."
 
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in August 2020, with eight contracts, followed by Power Plant (6) and T&D Equipment (4).
 
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
 
*Consulting & Similar Services: six contracts and a 30% share
*Project Implementation: six contracts and a 30% share
*Supply & Erection: six contracts and a 30% share
*Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two contracts and a 10% share.
*Power contracts in August 2020: Top issuers by capacity
 
The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:
 
*New and Renewable Energy Authority (Egypt): 250MW from one contract
*Government of Madagascar (Madagascar): 56MW from one contract.
